Do I have to use your backup app?
No. SMS Backup & Restore produces the same XML format and works fine. We built ours because we wanted one that provably never uploads your messages.
Does the backup app send my texts anywhere?
No. It reads your messages, writes a file, and hands it to Android's share sheet. You decide where it goes. It makes no network calls with your message data at all.
Can I analyse just one conversation from the backup?
Yes. Back up a single conversation, or upload the full file and choose which two people to analyse.
What about MMS and group texts?
MMS text is included. Group threads work but give a weaker read, because attachment dynamics are about a pair.
